Back To School Rabboni!

bbt images 081615 aunt beckys signAs we lay down our flip-flops and pick up our School Supplies I want us to be Encouraged! ‘Cause whether we are learning it for the first time—or just taking a refresher course—we ALL need to be headin’ Back To School to continue our Transformation in order to become everything God created us to be.

So let’s take a look at a rather unlikely Back To School passage in the Book of John. Jesus has just been crucified.  His Disciples scattered.  And Mary Magdalene approaches the empty tomb to find what she believes is the gardener:

“Woman,” he said, “why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?”

Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”

Jesus said to her, “Mary.”

She turned toward him and cried out in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher).”– John 20:15-16 NIV

According to BibleHistory.com, “RABBONI” or Teacher (pronounced Rahbonee) is a term that appears only twice in the Bible: here in John and interestingly enough—in Mark 10:51 when Jesus heals the blind beggar Bartimaeus, the namesake of the church we attend in Dallas. Started more than half a century ago by a Pastor with Disabilities named Don Whitmore and his wife Anna Ruth, Bartimaeus Baptist Temple still ministers to People and Families affected by Disability citywide and worldwide via the Internet.

Rahbon means Great Master; but Rahboni suggest My Great Master.  It signifies not just a Relationship but a deep Personal Relationship like the kind He desires with each and every one of us.

Through His Eyes

My husband Larry’s Aunt Becky shared a cool graphic on Facebook (featured above). Up until her recent retirement, Aunt Becky loved igniting a passion for mathematics in her students.

What a gentle, beautiful reminder for all of us–regardless of disability–to see not just ourselves but Others the way God sees them! So let’s all go Back To School together to allow each other to become Rabboni For His Glory and to help each other Transform into everything He has created us to be. Amen!

In His Accessible Grace,

Linda
